Do you like modern cartoons? What happened with Mickey and the old stuff?
75Just the other day i had my niece visiting for a couple of hours and since i have no toys around the house and had a little bit of work do to, i though I'd just get her to watch some cartoons.
I opened the PC with the tuner in it in order to look for my all time favorite channel from childhood, Cartoon Network. I found it but... things changed a lot in the last years.
I must admit i haven't watched Cartoon Network for like a decade, but hey, what happened to the cartoons. What happened with Scooby, Fred Flintstones, Tom and Jerry or Dexter? The cartoons these days are just a mere shadow of what they were before.
Take this episode from some Ben 10 show , that was the most boring thing i ever saw. And then some episode from Naruto, some kind of Japanese manga non-sense. Come on, these things are far away from what a cartoon should really be: simple, funny, catchy and educative. Especially that Naruto thing is just a sequence of images where Naruto and his friends trie to beat some Sand Wizard guy. Nonsense, absolutely nonsense.
My niece liked them though, she said she watches Ben 10 regularly and enjoys it. But when I asked her if she liked Tom and Jerry too, she didn't even had a clue who those were. So i guess she learned to like the cartoons screened these days because she had no alternative.
So I will now come and ask what happened to the old stuff. Disney cartoons with Mickey, Donald, Goofy, classics from Hannah and Barbera like The Flintstones or The Jetsons, shows like Tom and Jerry or that funny cartoon with Dick Dastardly. Those are not here anymore.
And especially the Disney movies. I remember i had video cassettes with 101 Dalmatians, Bambi or Snow White and i watched them tens of times with my sister and my cousins. I even had Disney coloring books and some weekly magazines with Mickey's adventures (i think it was called Mickey Mouse), but i haven't seen these anymore also. It's like all the good stuff is gone.
What's funny is that I'm not that old and all the things i'm telling you above were there like 12-15 years ago. But now are gone, and i for one feel that our kids are somehow widowed by the pleasure of watching a really good emotional cartoon.
I also feel like they don't make cartoons that good anymore as they used to. They tend to make everything in 3D and work on fancy special effects without really caring about the most important parts: the story and the feeling.
Am i the only one thinking so? Am i the only one believing the old cartoons were a lot better than the ones shown right now on TV? I'm just curios, those of you who have kids , what are you folks showing them, these modern nonsenses or the classics?
You can find lots of these older cartoons on Youtube.
I really do miss those old cartoons. Mighty Mouse, Tom & Jerry,Woody Wood Pecker and so many more. I almost forgot Porky the Pig.

I was just doing a search to find out if there are any channels out there where I can once again watch The Flintstones, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, The Roadrunner, and (I say, I say) that big rooster. Bring them back! PLEASE!
